Apps

As technology improves, it is important for educators to have a resource for tech tools that can help them flip their space effectively.

These are quick video tutorials on how to use these apps.
Kahoot! - A great way to make multiple choice questions fun
Plickers - A low tech, easy to use assessment app.

Content Creation

Screencast-o-matic

Screencastify

As the name implies, this is a screencasting app that I use and love.  It is easy to use and allows direct uploads to YouTube.  Also, you can run this app from the web or download it.  The only drawback?  It doesn't work on Chrome.
This is another screencasting app.  It works very similarly to screencast-o-matic, and is designed for Chrome.  In a 1:1 chromebook district?  Use this app for content creation!

PowToons

This site allows you to make short, animated content videos.  The interface is easy and result is cool.

Communication

Remind

Smore

Voxer

This is one of the best apps for communicating with students or parents.  Participants just need a join code and they can get all your notifications. With a bunch of other options, this is a must have app for any class, flipped or not.
This is a digital newsletter app that allows users to make and distribute newsletters to whatever audience they want.
Voxer bills itself as a walkie talkie app for your phone.  Participants join a room and respond to whatever voice prompt is there.  Easy to use on both iPhone and Android, and the web interface isn't so bad either.

Slack

Slack is an alternative to email.  While it seems redundant to have slack and email, the slack app has an ease of use that makes email seem old and clunky.

Lesson Building

PlayPosit

Stile

EdPuzzle

After creating a video or finding a video on-line, use playposit (formerly educanon) to embed questions directly into the video.  Teachers can also use the questions as a formative assessment to guide their in-class lesson.
Stile is an all-in-one lesson template that allows the user to make all sorts of creative lessons that include video, text, pictures, and more.  Their interactive canvas is one of the best, most interesting features of this app.
Similar to playposit, this app allows you to embed questions directly into the video that students are asked to watch.  The functionality of the assessment is slightly different than playposit, which makes EdPuzzle different than other sites.

Assessment

Kahoot!

Plickers

This low tech solution for assessment is amazing.  Students use cards it select an answer, then the teacher scans the room with their smart phone to get immediate results to guide instruction.
An app that replaced traditional clickers with devices that students already have in their hands.  It is a fun way to make learning competitive.

Presentation

Movenote

Recap

As an option for students to make a presentation, movenote is more formal than screencasting.  Upload either a powerpoint or a google slides, then students are able to record themselves as the slides are presented.  The final presentation has a more professional appearance.
The is a great way to alternatively ask students questions and get responses.  Type a question or series of questions, then make it available to students.  They use their device to make a video answer to the question as opposed to a written answer.
